Managing Jobs
Jobs are where the real work happens. Once a client approves your estimate, you create a job to manage the execution — scheduling crews, tracking progress, handling change orders, and ultimately invoicing when the work is done.
What You’ll Learn
- What jobs are and how they fit into your workflow
- What’s inside a job
- How jobs connect to estimates and invoices
The Tallie Workflow
Jobs sit right in the middle of your end-to-end workflow:
Estimate → Approval → Job → Completion → Invoice → PaymentAn estimate is your proposal. Once it’s approved, you create a job to actually do the work. When the work is finished, you create an invoice from the completed job.
What’s Inside a Job
Each job is a hub for everything related to a piece of work:
- Line Items - Carried over from the approved estimate (materials, labor, quantities)
- Schedule - Start and end dates, crew availability
- Crew Assignments - Who’s working on the job
- Scope Items - Detailed work instructions
- Change Orders - Billing adjustments when scope changes mid-job
- Internal Notes - Job-site observations, reminders, and communication
How Jobs Flow
Every job moves through a clear set of statuses:
Draft → Scheduled → In Progress → Completed
At each stage, different actions become available. A draft job is still being set up. Once scheduled, your crew can see it on the calendar. When work kicks off, it moves to in progress. And when the work wraps up, you mark it complete and create an invoice.
A job can also be Canceled if the work is called off.
See Job Lifecycle for the complete breakdown of each stage.
